Many people experience abdominal discomfort, and it often doesn’t require treatment. However, certain types of abdominal pain should be taken seriously, as they might need medical care or sometimes even immediate attention.

Using an abdominal ultrasound, doctors can swiftly and simply examine key organs in the abdomen, like the liver, gallbladder, and kidneys.

This test assists doctors in understanding the source of abdomen pain or bloating. It’s also useful in identifying other pain-related issues, such as kidney stones or growths, among various conditions.

Abdominal pains can be mild and go away on their own, but they may also be a sign of a more serious problem. Bloating and gas can cause cramps, and indigestion can cause general discomfort. However, if the pain is in a specific area or is sharp, persistent, or getting worse, it’s best to see a doctor. Some signs to see a doctor for abdominal pain include dull pain lasting over a week, intense pain that doesn’t go away in a day or two, recurring pain, swelling for more than two days, unexpected weight loss, diarrhea for more than five days, a fever, or pain when you pee. Abdominal discomfort can range from minor issues like a stomach bug to very serious conditions like an aneurysm. If you feel like something is not right, it’s important to get it checked out by a doctor.

An ultrasound scan is a medical test that doesn’t require much preparation.

To do an abdominal ultrasound, the person lies on their back on a table while the doctor uses a wand that sends sound waves into the body.

Before starting, the doctor applies a gel on the skin to help the sound waves pass through easily.

The doctor then moves the wand around on the skin to create an image of the abdomen.

This process is painless, although the wand may press lightly on the skin.

The procedure takes around 15-25 minutes, and the doctor will clean off any leftover gel from the skin afterward.

Radiology doctors are specialists in imaging and can discuss the results of the test to help diagnose any conditions.

After an Abdomen Ultrasound, no special care is typically needed. You can go back to your usual diet and activities unless advised otherwise by your doctor.

There are no known harmful biological impacts on patients or those operating the equipment from the ultrasound intensities used in diagnostics.

However, based on your individual results, your doctor might provide further guidance or different recommendations post-examination.

After your scan, the person doing the scan will tell you the results in words.

Then, they will look closely at the pictures from the scan and write a report with any advice within 24 hours. They will send you the report so that you can talk to your doctor about the results (if you need to).
